Sacramento Republic FC starts the 2018 United Soccer League season with a victory in front of a sell-out Papa Murphy’s Park crowd. The Quails defeated San Antonio FC; 2-1 with goals from Keven Alemán (Cameron Iwasa) at 45’, and Christian Eissele just after the half at 48’. San Antonio came back for a goal at 68’ by Mikey Lopez (Darnell King) and made a few late attempts, but Josh Cohen held his ground with several impressive saves.
Head Coach Simon Elliot was happy with the result but believes the team has work to go.
“I think the end result was successful, but I wouldn’t say it was a successful 90 minutes, We need to be a 90-minute team, and we’re not there yet. Obviously, some nice goals and I thought we were tough at the end. We just need to brush up and move on.”
He went on to say
“Turnovers are were we need to improve. Throughout the game little details make all the difference over 90 minutes. I think that we turned the ball over a little too much. At times we were really good, but overall if we can eliminate stuff like that it will help us a lot. Then in the last ten minutes they start to push guys forward and they start to push, we just need to be a little bit smarter with the way that we control the ball.”
Next Match – Orange County SC Saturday, March 24, at Champions Soccer Stadium at OC Great Park.
